Installation for the Mirabeau B project took place over a 2-day period. Transportation from Dallas to Houston involved building out a double level crating system that could support the cumulative weight of approximately 2800 lbs. The tiles were mounted in groups of four to make up a vertical column. This allowed both easier installation as well as control of alignment. This strategy also allowed for us to remove a single tile in the case of damage by only having to take down one column and then the tile instead of working from an end to the middle to remove a tile if the tiles were attached individually. Once the tiles were mounted, a ¼ plate steel frame was produced that took the figuration of the side of the tiles and water jet cut the steel to match the same profile on the sides of the wall.
The installation site was still under construction and therefore, lighting and the finished floor were not done; however, we were able to complete our install over a weekend while most of the workers were gone who then covered the wall up with protective 4×8 sheets for the remainder of construction. The residences are expected to open in late fall of 2013.
